In 2016, we introduced the Stewardship Spirituality or way of life of sharing our time, talent, and treasure to the church. We are proud to call our parish a Stewardship Parish with many volunteers sharing their time, talent, and resources serving the church.
As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace. 1 Peter 4:10 What is Stewardship?Stewardship is about gratitude to God for all the gifts He gives us each day. It is a prayerful, planned, and proportionate giving of our time, talent, and treasure. We recognize that all we have ultimately comes from God, and we thank the Lord by returning to God some of what we have received. |
The Three Aspects of Stewardship
1. TIME
Stewardship begins with taking care of and sharing the gift of time. Plan a careful schedule to include time for prayer and the sacraments. This is vital in the stewardship of our physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual lives.
2. TALENT
Our talents are special blessings from God. When we volunteer to help others by sharing our talents, we give something more precious than our time or our money.
3. TREASURE
Our treasures, both money and possessions, are gifts from God that we are asked to care for and generously share for our own benefit and for the benefit of others.
A Stewardship Way of Life Leads to Discipleship
The US Bishop’s Pastoral Letter of Stewardship invites all Catholics to invest themselves—time, talent, and treasure- in the mission and ministries of the Church. This invitation is a challenge for each of us to live a life of gratitude, accountability, and generosity. A stewardship way of life is a way that truly seeks to live as a disciple of Jesus.
Stewardship is based on a biblical view of God as Creator and ourselves as servants. From this perspective, we are encouraged to develop or renew the practice of regularly reflecting on God’s love for us and the goodness of our lives. With a sure sense of our blessings in mind, we are encouraged to make GRATITUDE the fundamental motive for our giving. The Bible also reminds us that as servants we are accountable to God for the use of our gifts of time, talent, and treasure—this is STEWARDSHIP.
Are you ready for the challenge to invest yourself—to give your time, talent, and treasure to the mission and the ministries of Holy Name of Jesus Parish?
Stewardship Prayer
My parish is composed of people like me. I help make it what it is. It will be friendly, if I am. It will be holy, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them. It will do great work, if I work. It will be prayerful, if I pray. It will make generous gifts to many causes, if I am a generous giver. It will bring others into worship, if I invite and bring them in. It will be a place of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, of compassion, charity and mercy, if I, who make it what it is, am filled with these same things. Therefore, with the help of God, I now dedicate myself to the task of being all the things that I want my parish to be. Amen.
